An Indiana Fever social media post meant to count down the days to the season opener instead had fans counting wedding bells for Caitlin Clark, all thanks to her own playful comment.
As part of the countdown towards the new season, the Fever took to their official Instagram page to mark the moment with quite a symbolic post. The post featured Caitlin Clark’s jersey, cleverly using her iconic No. 22 as a symbol of the days remaining until their season opener. The idea struck a chord almost instantly. Clark herself dropped a sarcastic comment under the post, which also attracted thousands of reactions from fans.

The Fever will officially kick off their regular season on May 9 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. They face the Dallas Wings. While the Wings finished near the bottom of the standings last season with a 10-34 record, that number alone doesn’t fully reflect what they’re bringing into this matchup. They’ve reinforced significantly, adding reigning co-Defensive Player of the Year Alanna Smith, No. 1 overall draft pick Azzi Fudd, and three-time WNBA champion Alysha Clark. Alongside them, they still retain a strong core featuring Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale.
The Fever, in the same vein, has also managed to keep its own core intact. Caitlin Clark remains at the center, alongside Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, Sophie Cunningham, and Lexie Hull. They’ve also strengthened their roster with additions like veteran forward Monique Billings and Myisha Hines-Allen, who interestingly arrives from the Wings, and the No. 10 draft pick, Raven Johnson, among others.
Last season, they fell just short of glory, crashing out in the WNBA playoff semifinals. A large part of that setback was tied to Caitlin Clark’s absence due to injury. This time around, she’s back and looks ready to go again. If she manages to stay healthy, the Fever are undeniably strong contenders for the title.
They dominantly opened last season, dismantling the Chicago Sky 93–58. Now, with 22 days to another beginning, fans will be hoping they can start just as strong again. Fingers are crossed.
Fans React After Caitlin Clark’s Viral Dig at Fever Post
While the Indiana Fever’s post of Caitlin Clark’s jersey was meant to symbolize the number of days left until their first regular-season game, many fans ended up taking a completely different message from it. And that largely had to do with Clark’s own comment under the post. The jersey displayed her iconic No. 22. However, instead of the usual “Clark” name on the back, it read “Days,” pointing to the 22 days remaining until the season opener.
Clark, however, took to the comments with a playful response: “New last name slayyy,” implying that “Days” had now become her new surname. Surprisingly, not everyone caught the joke. Some fans took it quite literally, assuming there had been an actual name change. “She finally got married?” one fan asked.
Others, though, were quick to get in on the humor. “Very funny, CC, but even if you did marry, your last name will always be Clark,” one fan wrote. Another, clearly leaning into the joke, added, “We have some detective work to do finding someone with the last name Days.”
While Caitlin Clark has been in a relationship with Connor McCaffery for three years, the couple has yet to exchange wedding vows.
A large percentage of the reactions, however, were simply that of excitement ahead of the new season. “Can’t wait for the season to start, let’s go Fever,” one fan wrote. Another fan also echoed the same energy, saying, “Can’t wait to see our amazing players back together! Wish we could have everyone from last season, but we have a great group.”
Their first preseason test against the New York Liberty in just eight days will offer the first real glimpse of what this new-look Fever team can do.
