Another certain Bournemouth exit this summer is that of Marcos Senesi, with suitors being lined up to capture the cultured defender on a free transfer.

As Cherries boss Andoni Iraola starts his search for a new club following Tuesday’s announcement he will depart at the end of the season, Senesi’s representatives have been busy trying to secure the 28-year-old his next move, after notifying Bournemouth he will not be signing a new deal on the South Coast.

The i Paper understands Liverpool are the most likely destination, as they look to add some much-needed fresh faces to their central defensive arsenal.

Skipper Virgil van Dijk, who turns 35 in July, has had to play 49 times already this campaign, due to lack of alternatives, while Ibrahima Konate continues to struggle for form and last summer’s signing Giovanni Leoni remains on the treatment table.

Chelsea and Manchester United had been keeping tabs on Senesi, but The i Paper has been told neither are currently planning to make a move.

United are looking to bolster their backline, though sources added Senesi does not fit the age profile or type of defender they are looking for. As it stands, a move for Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is more likely.

The Blues are looking to pursue players with more physicality as they re-evaluate their inflated squad ahead of next season.

Senesi still looks almost certain to remain in England after Italian giants Juventus and Roma both passed on the opportunity to sign the Argentina centre-back.

Juventus had carried out extensive checks but informed his agent recently that they did not believe he would be a guaranteed starter and they are now out of the race. And it is also understood that Roma – another club who were carrying out due diligence on the Argentina defender – have decided to pass.

That leaves a clutch of English clubs who have expressed an interest in fighting it out for Senesi. Aston Villa and Everton are among the clubs keen, while Tottenham Hotspur – if they stay in the Premier League – are also interested.

It is understood that Senesi has been offered to most of the clubs in contention to play in Europe but is yet to make a decision on where he goes next. A ruling is expected to be finalised before the end of the season. His wage demands could rule out some interested parties.
