Cameras Capture Magic Johnson Over Interaction With Caitlin Clark Fans During Fever vs. Sparks

The Indiana Fever vs. Los Angeles Sparks matchup was one of the most anticipated games of the week. After falling to the Dallas Wings in their season opener, the Fever entered the game looking to bounce back, and eventually, they got the job done. But despite everything that happened on the court, one moment involving Magic Johnson and Caitlin Clark fans ended up stealing the spotlight.

The Lakers legend, who is also part of the Sparks ownership group, was in attendance for the matchup on Wednesday night. During the game, cameras captured Johnson sharing a heartwarming moment with two young fans, who were proudly wearing #22 jerseys.

In his interaction with them, Johnson signed a t-shirt before handing it over to the kids, and that instantly grabbed attention across social media.

While it may have looked like a small gesture, many appreciated the fact that Johnson had no issue showing love to young Caitlin Clark supporters despite being tied to the Sparks organization. But what many might not be aware of is that he has always been a Clark supporter.

Ever since the 24-year-old guard entered the WNBA, the NBA icon has consistently praised her impact on the league. During her rookie season, Magic Johnson openly applauded both Clark and Angel Reese for “playing great” and “doing great things for the league.”

A few months ago, they both also worked together in a Capital One commercial alongside Charles Barkley and Samuel L. Jackson. And after they were done filming the ad, Johnson even praised Clark’s personality.

“Caitlin has a great personality, too,” he said. “She’s into it just as much as we’re into it. You can poke fun at her.”

But while the wholesome moment quickly left everyone in awe, it is worth noting that the Fever also handled business on the court as they secured their first win of the 2026 season.

Caitlin Clark Takes the Spark Out of the Sparks

After the Fever failed to open their season with a win, Indiana entered their latest match looking sharper, more composed, and far more comfortable offensively. And Clark wasted almost no time setting that tone.

The Fever guard came out aggressive early, scoring seven quick points in the opening quarter. Every time she pushed the pace or found space in transition, the Fever offense seemed to speed up with her.

While, of course, the Sparks still had their moments too. Cameron Brink delivered a huge block that instantly brought the crowd to life, and Kelsey Plum kept Los Angeles within striking distance for most of the night with a strong 25-point performance. But Indiana simply had the strongest will.

Kelsey Mitchell completely caught fire offensively and helped swing the game in the Fever’s favor by dropping 23 points, while Sophie Cunningham brought major energy off the bench and helped Indiana slowly build separation on the scoreboard. Caitlin Clark finished the game with 24 points and 9 rebounds

By the third quarter, the Fever stretched the lead to as many as 19 points. The Sparks did try one final push late in the fourth quarter and even cut the deficit down to single digits, but Indiana responded before things could truly get dangerous. And that may have been the biggest positive takeaway from this game.

After struggling defensively in their season opener, this time they looked far more organized during key stretches and handled late-game pressure much better as they ended the game 87-78.

Now, this team will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup against the Washington Mystics on May 15.
