The road to The Masters Tournament is quickly narrowing. And the future of Rickie Fowler in the 2026 Masters still remains extremely uncertain. However, he has a new chance to grab a berth in the Masters field, and the next two weeks could determine whether he will tee off at the Augusta National Golf Club on April 8. Now, as he gears up for the Houston Open, he must meet one criterion in the Texas event to step into the Georgia greens.

A golf fan page on X, Rickie Fowler Tracker (@Rickie_Tracker) shared an update, reading, “Rickie Fowler is back in Houston this week. A massive week as he will need a Top 5 to qualify for The Masters via Top 50 OWGR. If he fails to do so he’ll have to win Valero. A lot riding on this week! Time for the best golf of the year. 🤝

Although Fowler remains one of golf’s most recognizable and popular players, he currently sits outside the crucial top-50 cutoff in the Official World Golf Ranking, leaving his Masters hopes hanging in the balance. Now, as the 37-year-old would arrive at the Texas Children’s Houston Open to tee off on March 26, he would face immense pressure. Why? To secure a late entry into the Masters through the world rankings, Fowler likely needs a top-five finish in Houston.

In case he fails to finish within T5 in the $9.9 million event, he will have only one remaining path to achieve an entry to the 2026 Masters Tournament. That might turn out to be even tougher. He would have to emerge victorious at the Valero Texas Open, the final PGA Tour event before Augusta, to get into the Masters field.

Just a few seasons back, the golf world witnessed him struggle hard to revive his career. The American golfer returned to the Masters field in 2024 after winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2023. However, unfortunately, he missed the tournament again in 2025.

Now ranked No. 61 in the world, Fowler must deliver one of his strongest performances of the season immediately. And as he aims towards achieving the feat, he has recently faced yet another setback.

Rickie Fowler faces a significant obstacle ahead of 2026 Masters

The Augusta Masters are coming up, and all the big guns are bracing up. So far, Rickie Fowler has had a great 2026. While he might not have had a lot of top 10 finishes, his career performances have been quite consistent on the leaderboard. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, Fowler is running the risk of not qualifying for the Masters this year. But he does have one way to turn the tables- amp up things significantly.

According to a report from the Rickie Fowler Tracker, “To reach the Top 50 this week, Rickie will need a Solo 5th finish or better. He needs 17.18402 points across the next three events to reach #50 on this week’s OWGR. There’s a lot of different scenarios but three straight Top 15s should do it. Thanks to @mikeray for putting this together!”

Surely, this will be an uphill battle for Fowler. But considering how well he has orchestrated his season thus far, it does not look impossible. Playing at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am, he clinched a T19 finish. Next up, he followed it up with a T28 at the Genesis Invitational. Thus, with all eyes on the golfing icon, it now remains to be seen whether he can turn things around as the Masters comes near.
