After an average O-line performance in 2025, Brent Venables is thinking ahead. Earlier in January, he’s already rolled out an offer to a Cypress (Texas) Cy-Ranch standout from the 2028 class, who’s also the nation’s No. 1 OT. Now, Oklahoma is getting a chance to impress this 5-star as he arrived in Norman as one of the three top-50 national prospects.
R’Monie Edwards made an official visit to Oklahoma alongside 4-star WR Damarion Mays and already committed 4-star RB Micah Rhodes. The 6’5, 260-pounder is the 2028 cycle’s top OT who stepped onto campus with an offer he received on January 13 and plenty of eyes on him. Ever since Rhodes committed, he has been on the Sooners’ radar and it’s not hard to understand why.
R’Monie Edwards had a breakout freshman season and walked away with Freshman All-American honors. That’s why he’s the No. 1 player in Texas and Oklahoma knows how his addition can boost their morale and production. If you watched their 2025 season, pass protection improved dramatically and sacks dropped from 50 in 2024 to 29 in 2025. But if you compare their production with other teams, their 2.23 sacks per game still ranked 93rd nationally.
Despite coming off a playoff run, the run game is still searching for consistency. There had been too many snaps where the line couldn’t generate movement. And that’s why a prospect like R’Monie Edwards could be a program-turning addition, even though Oklahoma still has to wait a couple more years before he could play for them. Well, that is, if at all he commits to OU. And right now, signs are showing that he’s interested.

One edge Oklahoma has in R’Monie Edwards’ recruitment is connection. He didn’t grow up far removed from the Sooners’ influence.
“Where I grew up, it would be Dallas Cowboys fans and Oklahoma fans,” he said. “That’s what everyone was, it felt like.”
That familiarity gets a further boost after Micah Rhodes’ commitment. He’s now taken the reins in the recruitment of R’Monie Edwards.
“I’m very blessed, and now that I’m committed this early, I can start recruiting guys to go do some big things at that school,” he said. “Definitely R’Monie Edwards. I would love to bring him with me. I’ve been talking to him on the daily about it.”
The connection makes sense as both are Houston-area standouts with early rankings. R’Monie Edwards is also a basketball player who already holds more than 20 offers including powerhouses like Oregon, Texas, and Georgia. And while Oklahoma seeks a future O-line anchor, how is their present looking?
Where Oklahoma’s O-line stands right now
If you hear what current LT Michael Fasusi has to say, you’ll hear optimism. After starting 10 games as a freshman, he’s stepping into 2026 with confidence and continuity.
“I definitely see myself getting better in every single scheme,” he said. “My hands have been faster, more aggressive… The time that was put in… feels like magic. (We’re) a coordinator with each other, commenting on every single play.”
Brent Venables has already pointed to that continuity as a major win heading into the season. Oklahoma returns Ryan Fodje, Eddy Pierre-Louis, and Jake Maikkula while adding Arkansas transfer E’Marion Harris boosts experience and stability.
Now if you plug in a future piece like R’Monie Edwards into that pipeline, their offense could balance with their dominant defense. Still, while it’s easy to get carried away with projections, visits like this don’t guarantee commitments but it already signals interest.
