The Indiana Fever’s situation in these free agency talks is facing a major dent. The Fever’s front office has already made major strides by submitting offers to players like Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull. But Hull’s latest update in her approach to the free agency meetings has blurred the situation around her, prompting a stern reaction from fans.

Speaking in a recent interview during the Tamron Hall show, Hull confirmed that she’s taking up a free agency meeting despite reports that the Fever has already sent a reserved qualifying offer to her, courtesy of her status as a restricted free agent.

“We just finished working out, and now I have a meeting for free agency,” Hull said on the Tamron Hall show. “I just finished my meeting at the facility and now we’re heading home.”

In her four seasons at the Indiana Fever, Lexie Hull has been quite formidable, mainly off the bench. Hull has recorded 5.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in her Fever career and provides the team with that much-needed depth. Furthermore, her performance in the WNBA playoffs last season in Caitlin Clark’s absence is another silver lining in her career. She averaged around 10.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists across the eight games she played.

As a result, the team is already giving her the priority with a new offer, making her an official restricted free agent. But her latest revelations nullify the Fever advantage they were trying to build on. And fans aren’t buying into the entire situation around the player.

Lexie Hull’s Free Agency Makes Bizarre Noise From Indiana Fever

“Lexi wants to come play with Angel in Atlanta 🔥,” a fan wrote.

“You know we can’t do much except match the offer,” chimed in another.

It’s quite a feasible and headline-grabbing move if it happens. Two talented youngsters are bossing the court for the Atlanta Dream; it’s a pairing written in the sky. But for that, the Dream will first have to make an offer to Hull, which hasn’t been in news until now. Even then, the Indiana Fever will have the final say and can match that offer; Lexie Hull will have to stay.

If the Dream, by chance, can’t match that offer, only then can Lexie Hull join the Atlanta Dream. In any other case, Hull will have to stay, and since the Fever has already made a reserved qualifying offer, Hull can now negotiate with other teams.

“They can’t. She’s a restricted free agent. She’ll need to go out and find a team that would offer her a deal. The Fever has the option of matching or letting her leave,” commented another.

“She’s restricted, but they might not be able to match so she could walk. Alternatively, it helps her know her value relative to the Fever’s offer for negotiations,” remarked another.

Several fans, including these, echoed the same sentiment. Considering she’s a restricted free agent, the Indiana Fever doesn’t have the right to lock her up. Only if a team makes an offer that is immensely above Fever’s grade and subsequently can’t match that, then Hull will have the option to leave. Thus, the ball is still in the Indiana Fever’s hands.

But given that she is attending a free agency meeting, it can be inferred that she’s eagerly seeking such offers to secure higher pay, thereby leaving significant uncertainty about the Indiana Fever and Lexie Hull’s situation.

“Because we have the worst GM in the league,” summed up a netizen.

Due to the uncertainty around Lexie Hull’s situation, most of the pressure is on Fever general manager Amber Cox. Of course, nothing is certain about Hull’s situation, but the major question arises: how much can the Fever push for Hull? It must be learned that the franchise has secured Kelsey Mitchell, meaning she will receive a supermax salary, accounting for $1.4M of the $7M salary cap.

Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell are also expected to come back to the team. And, courtesy of the EPIC provision in the new CBA, their salaries will increase significantly. As a result, a substantial amount of money is already tied up. It will be interesting to see how the Indiana Fever’s front office fares in landing the other players, including Hull.
