Although the Kansas City Chiefs have extended franchise cornerstone Travis Kelce for one more year, general manager Brett Veach and Co. aren’t done with their tight end search for the long-term future. While Kelce performed at a consistent clip, the majority of last year was focused on the Chiefs’ TE1’s retirement. With Kelce returning, those concerns are put to bed, but with the star tight end turning 36, the Chiefs are eyeing an exciting prospect for the 2026 NFL draft and have taken a significant step to evaluate him.

“Source: Georgia TE Oscar Delp will have seven top-30 visits, including one with the Browns today. The other upcoming visits: Bucs, Chiefs, Chargers, Panthers, Patriots, Vikings,” NFL insider Arye Pulli reported via X. “Delp was clocked as low as 4.44 on his Pro Day 40-yard dash. An intriguing prospect.”

In 2025, Travis Kelce posted 76 catches, his fewest since 2015, and 851 receiving yards, second-fewest since 2013. But despite these lowered numbers, the three-time Super Bowl champion finished fourth among tight ends in reception yards while catching five touchdowns. These stats highlight there’s still something left in the tank for Kelce, and the veteran star would hope to finish his career with one final dominant year, powering the Chiefs back into Super Bowl contention. While this appears to be a plan for the now, Arye Pulli’s report stresses that the Chiefs are also prioritizing their future by scheduling a visit for Georgia Bulldogs star Oscar Delp.

The 22-year-old couldn’t participate in the NFL Combine in Indianapolis after being evaluated with a hairline fracture in his foot. Although he received clearance from the doctors, Delp was deemed ineligible to compete to mitigate any further injury risk.

“It was definitely a shock,” Delp said Wednesday after his Pro Day. “It was something I kind of heard about in the middle of the season, but I was just as shocked as everyone else.”

However, Delp showcased his skills at the Bulldogs Pro Day, where he recorded a 4.44 in the 40-yard dash. Similarly, the 22-year-old recorded a 38.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot broad jump. These test results would definitely place him among the top athletic tight ends in the draft class.

Now, looking at his performance for Georgia, Delp recorded 70 receptions for 854 yards and nine touchdowns while securing a 65.7 overall grade from PFF in 2025.

With this combination of skill and athleticism, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Oscar Delp as the second-best tight end in the class. Hence, the Chiefs could bring in the Bulldogs’ star as a backup option for Travis Kelce and allow the 22-year-old to learn the trade from arguably the best player in the position. Furthermore, Kansas City has the 74th overall pick, which allows them to draft Delp, who is projected to be picked in the third round.

However, the Chiefs may need to move up in the draft, which is being held in Pittsburgh, to secure Oscar Delp, with an AFC North team emerging as a preferred landing spot for the star tight end.

Delp expresses excitement about playing for Cleveland

While the Kansas City Chiefs remain interested in Oscar Delp, the former Georgia Bulldogs star may have his sights set on the Cleveland Browns, thanks to his connection with new head coach Todd Monken. Delp played under Monken in his first season with the Bulldogs. Moreover, he formally met with the Browns at the NFL Combine.

Hence, when asked about a reunion with his former offensive coordinator in 2026, the 22-year-old had a positive response.

“Oh, I’d love it,” Delp said. “I mean, any team I’d love to be a part of, but to be able to play for Coach Monken again and all the great coaches they have on that staff would be amazing.”

Cleveland drafted Harold Fannin Jr. in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He had a standout rookie season, leading the Browns with 72 receptions. Among all NFL rookies, he finished second in receptions, tied for second with six receiving touchdowns, and fourth with 731 receiving yards.

Hence, whether the franchise pushes to draft Oscar Delp remains doubtful. So, the Chiefs must maximize their meeting with the 22-year-old if they want to find a Travis Kelce replacement in this draft.
