How do you make a tough defensive backcourt even more fearsome? The Chicago Sky’s answer involves adding DiJonai Carrington, and fans are already predicting fireworks.
The latest move is a one-year contract, and this comes from ESPN’s Alexa Philippou herself. DiJonai finished out last season with the Minnesota Lynx and appeared in 11 games for them, which included a solitary start.
Carrington’s time allotted was around 16 minutes per game, and she averaged 8.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.2 steals with splits of 48.5 percent shooting from the field, 45.5 percent shooting from the 3-point line, and 76 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
The Sky are counting on her to tighten up their backcourt defense. Chicago has been far from their best and has missed back-to-back playoff opportunities, which needed to be addressed. This is why they are looking to beef up their defense and have now added another defensive-minded player, along with Jacy Sheldon.
But what effect will these two have on Chicago? Let’s hear what the fans have to say.
Fans Expect Tough Nights Against Chicago’s Guards
The WNBA fans are known for their banter, and this time, the situation was no different.
“Oh man, Carrington and Jacy in Chicago? Load up the First Aid Kit before those games,” said a commenter poking fun at the situation.

The tongue-in-cheek remark from the fan comes because of the reputation this physical duo brings to the table, where they are bound to make games turn into bruising clashes. Sheldon’s scrappy intensity and DiJonai’s elite marking is bound to cause disruptions, and that is what the fan looks to point out.
“Safety glasses for the whole team,” pointed out another commenter.
The safety glasses again make sense because both DiJonai and Jacy have had quite a history with them, although Carrington’s involvement in the matter did not get into the referee’s books quite like Sheldon’s, and surprisingly, both involved the same player in Caitlin Clark.
“Caitlin needs to wear protective gear, especially helmet and glasses,” said a fan, clearly pointing out that episode of her life.
Coincidence? Sheldon’s altercation with CC is well documented by now. In a game between the Connecticut Sun and Indiana Fever, the guards attempted to steal the ball from Clark, who ended up swatting Fever’s superstar across the face, leading to an on-court team feud. Sheldon ended up receiving a flagrant one foul in the process.
And now, this duo will be entrusted to protect the Chicago rim. But wait, there’s Skylar Diggins, too in the equation.
“Not to mention Skylar,” came another swift comment, which quickly reminded us that there was more in the pipeline.
The veteran Diggins is another troublemaker, but she is not known for going overboard; when it comes to cutting down oncoming danger, she is second to none. Diggins brings a level of composure that is truly befitting of her experience in such high-level games.
“They’re gonna be the new Suns” who brought up the Sun connection to the newly recruited Chicago players.
The Sun’s ability to defend is unlike any other team, where their slow pace, emphasizing half-court balance, along with the ability to get very physical, tends to dictate the terms of the games. Their games have been characterized by heated altercations and that has been a staple of their showing, most notably when Indiana is involved in the picture.
The Chicago Sky management understands that their defense has led to their downfall and is adamant on fine-tuning things, and for that, they need the best options available.
