While the world continues to celebrate Angel Reese’s dream trade to Atlanta from the Chicago Sky, a section of fans was taken aback as a basketball Hall of Famer was far from impressed with the Bayou Barbie’s future.
If words could cut through your flesh, then this bold prediction surely could have that effect on Angel Reese. Dan Dakich, Indiana Basketball Hall of Famer, made some claims that will draw flak from Reese’s fanbase. “She’s ridiculous, she’s awful, and she will not last in Atlanta very long if she continues on this path,” was Dakich’s bold prediction, which no Angel Reese fan would like to hear ever.

Dakich’s blunt assessment may stem from an old-school approach, as the 62-year-old might not be impressed by Reese’s brazen style and panache.
Or maybe it’s Angel’s inconsistency that doesn’t appeal to him. The skepticism-laced comment certainly shows that displeasure. Dakich feels Reese does not have the “It” factor in her game to keep up with how the Dream operates.
However, it is safe to say a 2x All-Star and 2x Rebounding Leader like Angel Reese is far from awful. Even then, is there any substance to this bold prediction about Reese struggling at the Dream? Or is Dakich simply exaggerating?
Does Reese Not Fit On The Dream Roster?
It’s no secret that Reese has her detractors, but writing her off seems a little premature at this time. Angel is known for being erratic, but there’s simply no match for her when it comes to collecting rebounds and attacking the rim.
Atlanta’s 30-14 record highlighted its inconsistency, much of which stemmed from a glaring weakness in rebounding. That’s precisely the issue Angel Reese, who has led the WNBA in rebounding for two straight seasons with an average of 12.8 per game, is equipped to solve.
Angel can change all that. She has that grit and will to persevere, and brings in that toughness and interior defense, directly addressing Atlanta’s rebounding and paint protection weaknesses. Teaming up with Alisha Gray, who is an expert perimeter shooter, she can really cause problems for the opponents with her 14-point average from her first two seasons.
Signing Reese will also reshuffle how the Dream chooses to operate from here on. With Angel coming in, Naz Hillmon’s time might get cut down, and Reese will now become a starter for the Dream.
Alisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, and Angel Reese do look like a winning trio, though, and there shouldn’t be any reason to doubt their talents. While Howard excels with her shooting and rebounding (17.5 ppg and 4.5 reb), Gray also has quite the spark in her game (18.4 ppg and 5.3 reb).
Reese will come out with a point to prove, not just to naysayers like Dan Dakich but also to his former bosses in the Chicago Sky boardroom on how they shouldn’t have let her go.
For Dream, they will look at this acquisition as a jackpot trade where they have got hold of one of basketball’s big stars and look to seek redemption and re-establish themselves as contenders. And if they can at least break into the Final Four this season, they would look back at this trade as nothing less than a win.
